Writing Assistant includes five use cases:

  • Call to Action: Copy designed to make your visitor take a specific action (often used in buttons).
  • Headline: Header text intended to hook your visitor.
  • Summary: A shorter, summarized version of the text you provide.
  • Expand: A longer, more elaborate version of your write-up.
  • Rewrite: A different variation of the text you provide, roughly the same length as the original.

Before typing anything into the “Write-Up” field, make sure you know exactly what type of copy you’re looking for and choose the most appropriate use case.

While not required, adding a tone to your query ensures that the copy variations you receive are written in the voice you’re looking for.

Is your audience younger? Then choose a casual or funny tone. Are you speaking to professionals? Then a more formal tone is probably best. You might also change your tone depending on whether you’re writing copy for your home page, a product page, or a landing page.

Adding a tone is just another way to ensure the variations you receive are in line with what you’re looking for. There are plenty of tones to choose from so you’ll definitely find one that suits your unique audience.

Add all the necessary details to your write-up

Writing Assistant is smart, but it’s not a mind reader. If you want it to talk about a certain topic make sure to mention it in your write-up and don’t assume it will figure it out on its own.

For example, let’s say we wanted a paragraph on Taylor Swift and her album 1989. If we simply use the prompt “write a paragraph on Taylor Swift” we get this:

Taylor Swift is a multi-platinum singer-songwriter renowned for her narrative songs about her personal life. Her music has earned her numerous awards, including 10 Grammys, and she is one of the most successful female artists of all time.

1989 is arguably Taylor’s most popular album, but unless you specifically tell Writing Assistant to include it in the paragraph there’s no guarantee it will. So, we should change the prompt to “write a paragraph on the impact of Taylor Swift’s album 1989”. Then we get this:

Taylor Swift's album 1989 had an immense impact on pop culture, becoming one of the highest-selling albums of all time. It marked a shift in her music style, introducing a more mature sound with elements of pop and synth-pop. The album was also praised for its lyrical content, with many fans finding it relatable and inspiring. 1989 was a groundbreaking success, earning Swift five Grammy Awards and revolutionizing the pop landscape.

This goes for rewriting text as well. You should make sure all the topics you want covered are mentioned in the original text, even if you’re asking Writing Assistant to expand on your write-up.

Refine and iterate on your prompts and copy

Chances are your initial results will be close, but not exactly what you’re looking for. There’s always room for improvement and after reading your initial copy variations you’ll probably have a clearer idea of what you want.

The first thing you can do is go back to your write-up and add additional information or change your tone. This should produce something closer to your desired result.

Or, if you have a result that’s already close to what you’re looking for, copy and paste it into the write-up field and have Writing Assistant, expand, summarize, or rewrite it. You could also change the tone to put a new spin on it.
